Rosemont, Ill. - Fighting Illini senior golfer Charlie Danielson has been named Big Ten Golfer of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon. Danielson is coming off of a 9-under par performance at the 3M Augusta Invitational, where he finished just two strokes out of the tournament lead and helped Illinois to the team title. The weekly honor is the third for the Osceola, Wisconsin, native this season.
Danielson tied for second overall at the 3M Augusta Invitational, earning his sixth top-five finish of the year and his fourth finish among the top three. He shot a 54-hole score of 207 over the weekend, marking a season low. His opening round 66 (-6) was just one shot away from his current season low as well. Danielson, who is ranked at No. 7 in the country according to Golfweek, has shot under par in nine rounds so far this year, making even par in three, out of 21 total rounds.
Danielson and the Illini are preparing for the Boilermaker Invitational, coming up on April 16-17. Last season, Illinois came home with the tournament title, and Danielson shared medalist honors with teammate Thomas Detry.
