SPRINGFIELD – College of Nursing officials announce Charlene S. Aaron, PhD, RN, has been selected to serve as the new chancellor.

Dr. Aaron most recently served as an assistant professor at Illinois State University’s Mennonite College of Nursing. She worked there for over a decade and served as the director of nursing for various nursing homes and retirement communities in Livingston County before that.

She received her Doctorate of Nursing in Aging from the University of Iowa, with a dissertation focused on self-management of diabetes in African American female caregivers of persons with dementia.

She also received her MSN in nursing systems administration from ISU, her BSN from Illinois Wesleyan University, her diploma in nursing from Methodist Medical Center School of Nursing and her LPN license from Kankakee Community College.

Dr. Aaron is scheduled to begin her time as chancellor on June 1, 2016. President and CEO of HSHS Central Illinois Division, E.J. Kuiper, MHA, DPT, FACHE, says they are happy to have her.

“[Dr. Aaron] is passionate about educating students to be great nurses and increasing diversity of nursing students and faculty members,” Kuiper adds.

This new appointment comes as the college’s outgoing chancellor, Brenda Jeffers, PhD, RN, will be retiring June 30, 2016.
