Salvation Army Hosts Open House

Posted: Updated:

Springfield- Hoping to calm community members concerns, The Salvation Army hosted an open house of a new proposed community center.

The proposed location would be where the former Gold's Gym was located on 1600 East Clear Lake Avenue.

It would house a chapel, workout center, activities for families and children, as well as a homeless shelter.

The inclusion  of the homeless shelter is causing a lot of controversy among community members, who fear it will make their neighborhood unsafe.

The Salvation Army invited the community members into the proposed facility for a walk through to show them what they envision bringing to the community.

While some members were still spectacle of the plans, the walk through did help to calm some of the communities concern.

It is still not known when, or if the community center will open to the public.
