Ebert Film Festival Sees Decline

Posted:

CHAMPAIGN---The Roger Ebert Film Festival presented by the University of Illinois College of Media is seeing a drop in numbers.

A recent report in the Champaign News-Gazette found that total net revenue went down in each of the last three years. The 2015 festival brought in about $111,105; that is compared with about $125,220 in 2014 and about $137,200 in 2013.

Four of the 37 films presented at Ebertfest from 2013 to 2015 failed to turn at least $1,000 in ticket sales. All four of those films were shown last year.

Sales of all-season festival passes also took a dip in each of the last three years; individual ticket sales fluctuated. The 18th annual Ebertfest is set to begin this week at the Virginia Theater in Champaign. For more on Ebertfest, click HERE.
