New Assistant Macon County State's Attorney Named

DECATUR – Veteran prosecutor John Fischer is the new Assistant Macon County State's Attorney. Macon County State's Attorney Jay Scott made the announcement Monday.

Fischer will serve as Lead Prosecutor of the Gang and Weapons Prosecution Unit, and will prosecute homicide and other serious violent crimes.

A Decatur native, Fischer is a graduate of Quincy University and Saint Louis University School of Law. He served as an Assistant State's Attorney in Madison County, Illinois from 2004 to 2015.

During his final 2-and-a-half years there he held the position of Chief of the Criminal Division, supervising eight felony Assistant State's Attorneys, the Head of the Misdemeanor Division, and the attorneys assigned to Veteran's Court, Drug Court, and Mental Health Court.

Fischer also served on the Madison County Child Advocacy Center's Accreditation Board. He has been an Associate Attorney with the firm of Featherstun, Gaumer, Postelwait, Stocks, Flynn, and Hubbard in Decatur since July 2015.
