Top Colleges and Universities in the Country

Posted: Updated:

A number of factors come into play when determining the world’s best universities and colleges.

Attractiveness of campus, academic prestige, and best value are among the factors frequently included.

But for many high school seniors, proximity to home, financial aid, and overall cost weigh heavily in their decisions.

According to American Freshman: National Norms, more than half chose a university less than 100 miles away from their home.

Three quarters of incoming freshman chose a state school as opposed to a private institution.

If distance from home is a factor, Forbes recently published a list of schools one should consider before deciding where to go. It ranked the best universities in each state.

Other lists show Illinois schools, in general, fare well in overall quality. Two Illinois schools ranked in the top 30 on the “Best Colleges” list by Niche.
