Mumps outbreak continues

CHAMPAIGN - A staggering number of mumps cases were reported in April, according to the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District.

41 cases were reported in April alone, the highest health experts have seen since the outbreak began last spring.

280 cases have been reported so far..

Some people who were vaccinated also got the disease; however, health experts say the vaccine is still the best defense against the disease. Health leaders are talking to the Centers for Disease Control and the state to see if they can find a way to make the vaccine more effective. They've given out more than 12,000 shots since the outbreak began.
