Bill Allowing Adoption Of Retired Police Dogs Passes

SPRINGFIELD-----A bill that allows police officers to adopt dogs after the animals retire from the police department passed with unanimous agreement.

House Bill 6031 was introduced by Democratic State Representative Sue Scherer of Decatur.

Scherer said the measure is a step in the right direction for removing red tape when a police dog retires, and allows the bond between police dogs and officers to remain unbroken. A similar bill is pending in the State Senate.
