Banding Together to Help the McKay's

Posted: Updated:

Champaign- The community is banding together to help the McKay family with expenses they are occurring will their son Davis is in a hospital in Saint Louis.

Davis, a seven year old boy, from Champaign has been suffering from Leukemia for 3 years. His last chemotherapy session is in a month, where they hope he will beat the illness for good. Due to the leukemia, his immune system is struggling to fight off illnesses, and he caught acute pneumonia, causing him to be hospitalized for a month at a children's hospital in Saint Louis.  His parents, Courtney and Brian have not left his side since he has been hospitalized, causing them to pay for hotel rooms while they are away from home.

Friends of the family wanted a way to help the family pay for the expenses they are occurring while Davis is battling the illnesses, so they came up with the Band Together for Davis Fundraiser.

The fundraiser is selling bands for $10 and screen prints for $25. The outpouring of the community has been overwhelming, and so far has raised $10,000, half of the $20,000 goal that was set.

The bands are available at Art Mart, TCBY Yogurt, and First Federal Bank. Donations are also being accepted online at Davismckay.org.
