Macon Co. man airlifted to hospital after Motorcycle Accident

Posted: Updated:

HARRISTOWN – Macon County authorities were on the scene of a motorcycle accident that left a man from rural Macon County in critical condition.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office reports the accident took place in the 7400 block of Mount Auburn Road near the intersection of Timber Trail on Saturday, April 16. Authorities say the preliminary investigation indicates 69-year-old Gary McCormick was riding his 2003 Harley Davidson Fat Boy Motorcycle when he failed to negotiate the curve on Mount Auburn Road.

This caused the motorcycle to leave the roadway, flip and roll, which threw the rider from the bike.

The rider was airlifted from the scene of the accident to St. John’s Intensive Care Unit. As of 10:40 AM on Sunday, April 17, he remains in critical condition.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate this accident, but authorities are also reminding motorists to stay safe on the roads.

Sergeant Scott Flannery, with the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, says that as the weather changes, authorities see an increase in motorcycle traffic. Motorists are reminded to keep vigilant and aware of motorcyclists. However, motorcycle riders are also asked to take into consideration that their handling skills may not be as keen due to a long non-motorcycle riding season.
