Decatur firefighters respond to Saturday afternoon apartment fire

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - The Decatur Fire Department says an apartment building was moderately damaged by fire on April 16.

Officials say firefighters were dispatched to the 3100 block of Beth Boulevard at about 4:09 p.m. for a report of a residential fire.  Crews arrived on scene at 4:12 p.m., and the fire was brought under control at 7:47 p.m.

Fire officials say the preliminary investigation reveals that the fire may have started on the outside of the building and spread to the attic.  However, the official cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation.

All of the building's occupants were out of the building when firefighters arrived on scene, and there was no report of injuries.  The American Red Cross is assisting residents from 10 apartments who are affected by fire and water damage.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
