CHAMPAIGN COUNTY – Champaign County deputies, along with Rantoul and Champaign officers, were led on a pursuit throughout the county that ended with a 44-year-old Rantoul resident in custody.

Authorities received a report of a vehicle being stolen in Rantoul on Sunday evening. Champaign officers later located the vehicle in their jurisdiction, but the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle. A Champaign County deputy and his K9 partner then took up the chase when they found the vehicle in the county.

The deputy pursued the driver throughout the county and ended up following him into the Rantoul Village limits. This pursuit came to an end in 900 block of South Chanute Street.

Law enforcement say the suspect bailed out of the moving vehicle and began fleeing the scene on foot, even as the vehicle he was driving continued to move and crash into another parked vehicle.

The Champaign County deputy then released his K9 partner to apprehend the fleeing suspect. He was taken into custody at 1:45 AM on Monday, April 18.

44-year-old Danny Grady was arrested and faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under revoked license, aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude police, disobeying traffic control devices and resisting or obstructing an officer.

Grady was treated for minor medical injuries upon his arrest and now resides in the Champaign County Satellite Jail.
