Educators host event on student trauma


Decatur educators are holding a Monday evening film screening and discussion about trauma and stress among students.

The event, which is being held at 6 p.m. at MacArthur High School on Monday April 18, includes a screening of the documentary film Paper Tigers about students at Lincoln High School in Walla Walla, Washington, a school that specializes in educating traumatized youth, according to an announcement.  It will also include a discussion of the effects of poverty, violence and disease on families and students, according to the same announcement.

The event is being sponsored by the Illinois Education Association, the Decatur Education Association, the Decatur Public Schools Foundation and the Decatur Public School District.

It is free and open to the public.
