Oil Spill Reaches Wabash River

Mount Carmel – The Wabash River in downstate Illinois has been polluted by a significant oil spill.

Marathon Pipe Line LLC confirms 48,300 gallons of fuel has leaked from a pipeline near the town of Mount Carmel.  The Wabash County Sheriff’s Department confirms some of the leaked fuel has reached the Wabash River.

In a statement, the company says 1,150 barrels have leaked.  Marathon Pipe Line has shut down its Two Rivers Pipeline.

The company has not determined the source of the leak.
