Fire Department Orders Urbana Hotel Closed

Urbana – The Urbana fire chief has ordered a local hotel closed because of a faulty fire alarm system.

The Urbana Landmark Hotel, 210 S. Race Street, was ordered closed at 3:27pm on Tuesday.  The 14 guests in the hotel were asked to leave and were given refunds.

The city has been working with the hotel’s owner, Xio Jim Yuan, to rectify a series of fire alarm malfunctions.

“This is a major life-safety hazard and the safety of the guests is our greatest concern,” said Fire Chief Brian Nightlinger.

Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing says the 128 room hotel will be allowed to reopen when the fire alarm system is operational and dependable.
