Illini Win 5th Straight, Beat EIU 5-4


MATTOON -- The Illini (18-16) held off a late rally from Eastern Illinois to beat the Panthers 5-4, extending their winning streak to five games.

Jason Goldstein led the way with three hits, including a two-run homer.

Andrew Mamlic (3-6) earned his second straight win, allowing just two earned runs in 6.2 innings of work.

Eastern Illinois (5-31) put the tying run on third base with one out in the ninth. J.D. Nielsen pitched his way out of the jam, securing his 4th save.

The Illini return to Big Ten play this weekend when they host a three game set with Ohio State.
