Poets encouraged to enter 12th Annual Illinois Emerging Writers Competition

ILLINOIS - Poets from across Illinois are being invited to participate in the 12th annual Illinois Emerging Writers Competition Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Award.

This competition, named in honor of Pulitzer Prize Winner Illinois Poet Laureate Gwendolyn Brooks, is being hosted by Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White.  Poets ages 18 and older are encouraged to participate in this year's competition.

Cash prizes will be awarded as part of this competition, with $500 going to first place, $300 to second place, and $100 to third place.  Additionally, winning poems will be submitted for possible publication in several poetry-themed journals.
