A proposed merger between central Illinois athletic conference became official Wednesday.
In need of more members, the Okaw Valley and Corn Belt Conference announced their merger, effective the 2017-2018 school year.
The new conference will be called the "Illini Prairie Conference." The name, according to a joint release from current conference presidents, was a unanimously selection from the ten student bodies at the league's member-schools.
The creation of the conference began in February, as both the OVC and Corn Belt had members with plans to leave for other leagues. The merger was approved unanimously as each schools' board meetings in March.
The Illini Prairie Conference will consist of the following members:
St. Joseph-Ogden Monticello Unity Rantoul St. Thomas More Prairie Central Bloomington-Central Catholic Illinois Valley Central Pontiac Stanford-Olympia
