Local Special Olympics Athletes to Compete in Central/Area 10 Spring Games

WARRENBURG - Special Olympics athletes from four Illinois counties will gather in Warrensburg on April 30 for the annual Central/Area 10 Spring Games.

This year's event will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Warrensburg-Latham High School.  Special Olympics athletes from Christian, Logan, Macon, and Moultrie Counties will be participating.  

The Spring Games will begin with the running of the torch and the lighting of the cauldron.  Local dignitaries who will escort the torch runners include Mayor Corey Maloney, Fire Chief Keith Hackl, Police Chief Greg Wheeler, Warrensburg police officers, and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Athletes will be able to compete in the following events:

- 50, 100, 200, 400, and 800-meter runs
- Standing and running long jumps
- Shot put
- Tennis and softball throw
- 100, 400, and 800-meter walk races
- Wheelchair competitions and assisted races

Gold medal recipients will qualify to participate in the Special Olympics Illinois State Summer Games in June.
