Update: Decatur School Superintendent to Take Principal Job in Heyworth

DECATUR - Decatur Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Taylor is moving on. Taylor has been hired as the high school and middle school principal in the Heyworth public school system, she confirmed Thursday morning.

Taylor was hired at Decatur's superintendent in March of 2014, but the school board reached an agreement in February 2016 to not renew her contract.

Speaking by telephone Tuesday, school board member Fred Spannaus said he has mixed emotions about Taylor's departure.

"In a way, I'm glad for her ... but sad for our community," Spannaus said, adding that he doesn't know what the process to replace Taylor will involve but that "we need to take a good hard look at whether we want to permanently fill that position."

Suzanne Kreps, President of the Decatur Education Association, said many teachers appreciated Taylor's leadership style.

"She lets buildings have their own autonomy, and they get to make decisions at the building level, which in turn benefits those kids in that specific building," Kreps said. "I think people are very happy for her to move forward, but I think at the same time they're sad to see her leave so soon before a lot of teh things she wanted to implement were completed."
