Red Cross encouraging participation in 2016 Giving Day

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD - The American Red Cross is encouraging central Illinois residents to assist the organization in helping families in need during its 2016 Giving Day on April 21.

Officials say this one-day event is designed to rally the public to help the Red Cross in its goal to assist families affected by emergencies or disasters.  Members of the public are encouraged to donate essential items that can be used by affected families, as well as money that will be used to purchase needed items for families recovering from emergencies.

The American Red Cross responds to approximately 900 disasters in central and southern Illinois each year.  For more information about the 2016 Giving Day, or to find out how you can help families affected by disasters and emergencies, click here.
