Economic Development Having A Banner Year

Decatur – Developers of two restaurants took a site tour in Decatur this week.  It’s been that kind of year for economic development in the city.

“Over my tenure in economic development, which is close to a decade, we’ve had over a billion dollars invested here in Decatur,” Economic Development Officer Patrick Hoban told WAND’s Doug Wolfe at the Decatur Civic Center.

The city has seen a boom in economic development projects in recent months.  It doesn’t appear the growth will slow down anytime soon.  The restaurant developers are an example of new businesses looking at Decatur as a possible home.  They would join Sonic which is building a restaurant near the Decatur airport.

“I’m not going to tell you where we looked or what they’re doing but it’s nice to have those coming in,” Hoban stated.  “Very promising.  What they see, as the momentum is growing on top of other developments that are underway right now, they see that investment and say that we can do the same thing.”

The demolition of an old motel in the 400 block of E. Pershing Road also creates an opportunity for future growth.  Three developers have recently shown interest in the 9 acre site.
