I-TEAM: Pillsbury Mills Update

Springfield – Residents of the Pillsbury Mills neighborhood will be getting an update on the status of the asbestos laden Pillsbury Mills plant April 26th.

A WAND News I-TEAM report revealed problems at the plant including asbestos throughout the shuttered facility.  A court order obtained by the Illinois Attorney General last summer stopped the plants demolition.

The Pillsbury Mills Neighborhood Association has been fighting for over a decade to have elected leaders address the dilapidated plant which has been endangering the health of residents throughout the area.

On April 26th the Sangamon Valley Chapter of the Sierra Club, the Pillsbury Mills Neighborhood Association and the Springfield Branch of the NAACP will host the IEPA and the Illinois Attorney General’s office for a community update on the status of the plant.

The meeting will be at 6:30pm at the Springfield Public Library located at 326 S. 7th Street in Springfield.
