Champaign Police: Gibson Case Now Death Investigation

CHAMPAIGN – Champaign Police Detectives say after a recent discovery of remains near Clinton Lake, they are transitioning the missing person case of Ashley Gibson to a death investigation.

WAND initially reported on April 20 and 21 that Champaign Police were searching for 24-year-old Gibson who was last seen in northwest Champaign at 10 PM on April 17. Authorities were investigating a home in the 1500 block of Hedge Road, which was reported to be one of the last places she had visited.

Detectives recovered human remains from Clinton Lake at 1:30 PM on Sunday, April 24. They had been searching the area for evidence after recent information in the case led them to that area.

An autopsy will be scheduled, and forensic pathology will seek to positively identify the recovered body.

Following the discovery of the body, authorities transitioned Gibson’s disappearance to a death investigation.
