1 injured in early-morning crash on I-70

EFFINGHAM COUNTY - Illinois State Police say one person was injured in a two-vehicle crash involving a truck-tractor on I-70 early Monday morning.

Authorities say the crash happened at about 2:15 a.m. on I-70 eastbound, near mile post 87.  According to the preliminary investigation into the crash, a 2011 Freightliner was traveling eastbound on I-70 when it approached a slower-moving 2014 Volvo.  ISP officials say the Freightliner failed to slow down, striking the rear of the Volvo.

Troopers say the driver of the Volvo was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.  The driver of the Freightliner was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving beyond the 14-hour duty period.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
