Racially Charged Video Calls For Lynching Black SIU Students

Carbondale – A racially charged video has the Interim Chancellor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale threatening legal action.

The video, posted on YouTube, shows a masked speaker calling for the lynching and beating of black students.  The video goes on to attribute the message to a campus fraternity.  That frat has denied involvement.

Interim Chancellor Brad Colwell condemned the video and urged students not to distribute links.  He also threatened legal action against the person responsible for posting it.

The video’s release follows a black student’s complaint at a recent Carbondale campus residence hall forum.  The student said Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s student supporters used a racial slur and said black students should “go back to Africa.”

SIU is investigating that incident, which prompted an open letter from Colwell.
