USDA releases weekly crop report

ILLINOIS - According to a weekly crop report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, significant progress in planting corn throughout Illinois was made over the past week.

USDA officials say 4.4 days were suitable for fieldwork during the week ending on April 24, resulting in the amount of corn planted increasing by 30 percentage points, to 42 percent.  Officials also say only two percent of the state's soybean crop has been planted at this point.

Winter wheat condition was rated at 16 percent excellent, 52 percent good, 27 percent fair, four percent four, and one percent very poor.  The USDA also reports that 82 percent of the state's oats crop has been planted.
