SPRINGFIELD - The Sangamon Valley Group of the Sierra Club, the Springfield NAACP, and the Pillsbury Mills Neighborhood Association have announced they will host a community meeting on the progress of the cleanup at the former Pillsbury Mills plant on April 26.

The meeting will be held at the Springfield Public Library at 6:30 p.m.  Illinois EPA officials and representatives from the Illinois Attorney General's Office are expected to be in attendance.  Officials say they will meet to discuss the status of the plant, and the potential effects it may have on the surrounding neighborhood.

Demolition of the plant was halted through a court order obtained by the state Attorney General's Office.  In the order, the judge secured the 18-acre site until a licensed asbestos cleanup company can be hired.
