ReadyNation: Illinois could see 100,000 new STEM jobs over the course of this decade

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD - ReadyNation officials say nearly 100,000 new science, technology, engineering, and math-related jobs could be created in Illinois over the course of this decade.

According to a report released by ReadyNation officials, career opportunities in STEM-related fields are seeing rapid growth, greater than the rate seen by other, non-STEM-related fields.  Officials also say there may not be enough skilled workers to fill those new positions.

In order to combat this potential shortage, ReadyNation is suggesting increased investment in high-quality preschool programs for children ages three through five, and to protect and strengthen programs for at-risk infants and toddlers, as well as for low-income, working families.
