Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Police Department has announced that one person has been arrested in connection with an April 23 incident that left a police officer injured.

Springfield police say a Springfield police officer was dragged by a vehicle that sped off during a traffic stop in the area of Lawrence and Wheeler Streets at about 6:00 p.m. on April 23.  Authorities say several warrants were issued for Brian Turner, 24, in connection with this incident.

Police say Turner turned himself in to authorities on April 26, and was subsequently taken to Sangamon County Jail.  Turner faces preliminary charges of aggravated fleeing and attempt to elude, driving on a suspended driver's license, and reckless driving.  Turner was also wanted on a Montgomery County warrant for failure to appear in court on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge.

The officer involved in this incident suffered a shoulder injury, and is currently receiving treatment.  Springfield police are still investigating this incident.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
