New Foreclosure Mediation Program in Macon County

Free legal services are being offered in Macon County. It aims to work cases without litigation.

"They will have the opportunity to either meet with an HUD certified councilor or legal services. Both are providing these services to borrowers at no charge" says Director of CPS Stacey Tutt.

What does that mean for the average person facing foreclosure?

"It prevents houses from sitting there abandoned and neglected. It allows people, if they have the means, to save their homes so they can maintain their home ownership which is always good for neighborhoods. In the event they can't, it actually gets homes back to the banks faster -- before they start to deteriorate and blight our communities."

A team of active and retired attorneys will mediate in the foreclosure program. Those facing foreclosure will get a mediation conference in the mail.
