SPRINGFIELD-----He hit the books hard, and showed the characteristics of a leader. And now, he is the 2016 Outstanding Graduate at Lincoln Land Community College.

David Western was chosen for the honor at the annual student recognition ceremony on April 26. Western got picked because of a combination of factors: grade point average, leadership, motivation, service to the college community, extracurricular activities, and ability to overcome obstacles.

Western majors in engineering science. He also serves as president of the Alpha Epsilon Kappa chapter of Phi Theta Kappa academic honor society. He also works as a peer tutor in LLCC's Center for Academic Success. Western graduates May 13 during commencement ceremonies at Prairie Capital Convention Center. He then goes to the Missouri University of Science and Technology to study aerospace engineering.
