Illinois Juvenile Justice Commission Report on Expunged Records

Illinois-A new report from the Illinois Juvenile Justice Commission says youth in the state are being hindered with criminal records from getting education, employment and housing opportunities.

The reports breaks down expungement history and other barriers juvenile criminals face to have their records cleared.

Only 3 out of every juvenile arrests in Illinois get their record expunged.  The report is over a 10 year period starting in 2014.

The report comes as the Governor of Illinois Bruce Rauner plans to decrease the Illinois prison population within the next 10 years.

In Macon County out of the more than 3,000 juvenile arrests in those 10 years, one one person has had their record expunged. Four people had their records expunged in Sangamon County, out of more than 4000 arrested.  In Champaign County, more than 5000 people under the age 18 were arrested and only one expunged.
