Former Crete-Monee star Laquon Treadwell will stay within striking distance of home after he was taken by the Minnesota Vikings with the 23rd pick in Thursday night's first round.

The Ole Miss receiver overcame a gruesome break of his leg midway through the 2014 season to lead the SEC with 1,153 receiving yards and 11 TD catches this past year. He also ranked second with 82 catches.

As a senior at Crete-Monee, just east of Interstate 57 south of Chicago, Treadwell led the Warriors past Springfield High in the first round of the 6A state playoffs, 41-7. Crete-Monee would go on to win the state title, and on the season Treadwell racked up 81 catches for 1,424 yards and 16 touchdowns plus 257 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. The five-star recruit also had 56 tackles and six interceptions on defense.
