Free car seat safety checks being held in Decatur April 29

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - HSHS St. Mary's Hospital officials say they are partnering with the Macon County Health Department to host a car seat safety check on April 29.

The checks will be performed in HSHS St. Mary's west parking lot from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  Officials say motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of children's deaths in the country, and that the number of serious and fatal injuries could be cut in half if children where in age and size-appropriate car seats.

In addition to the safety checks, HSHS St. Mary's Hospital officials are offering the following safety tips:

- Rear-facing seat until your child reaches age 2
- Forward-facing seat until your child reaches the maximum height and weight limits
- Booster seat until the seat belt fits across his or her shoulder and hips
- Kids in the back seat until age 13

This event is free and open to the public.  For more information on HSHS St. Mary's Hospital, click here.
