Decatur - Efforts to combat copper theft is getting an extra push in Decatur.

State Representative Sue Scherer met with the Recyclable Metal Theft Task Force talking about how to slow down copper theft in the area.

"Copper theft is a serious, dangerous crime that affects communities across our state as well as businesses and public safety in our neighborhoods," said Scherer. "It's positive to see experts, law enforcement, and community members working together and engaging in conversations about creative and effective ways to address this issue."

The Recyclable Metal Theft Task Force was established by legislation last year. The task force is comprised mostly of police.
