DECATUR - The Decatur Family YMCA invited central Illinois families to keep their minds and bodies active during the 25th annual YMCA's Healthy Kids Day on April 30.

This year's event was held at 220 West McKinley Avenue in Decatur from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  Participants enjoyed sports and fitness activities, water games in the pool, and healthy snacks.

Decatur Family YMCA CEO Matt Whitehead says Healthy Kids Day is "a great opportunity to educate families and motivate kids to stay active in spirit, mind and body throughout the summer."

YMCA officials are also offering the following tips to help kids stay active this summer:

- Make sure kids get a minimum of five servings of fruits and vegetables every day
- Help develop a love for books by reading to and with you children often
- Have the family team up for athletic events and to volunteer
- Make sure children get enough sleep every night

YMCA's Healthy Kids Day is celebrated at more than 1,300 facilities throughout the United States each year.  For more information about the Decatur Family YMCA, click here.
