White Oaks Mall Holds Hiring Fair Thursday

Springfield - Christmas may still be three months away, but that doesn't mean that people aren't already thinking about it.

That includes retailers at Springfield's White Oaks Mall.

"In two weeks, I go to manager's meetings and then we're right into November, and we're gearing up right now," said Bobette Walker, area manager for The Buckle.

With the upcoming holiday season will come plenty of holiday shopping.

That means stores will need more employees to keep up.

"White Oaks Mall will see almost a million people in the coming months before Christmas.  We know the holidays are just around the corner and so it gives everyone just a couple weeks to get everybody in and know the nuances of white oaks mall.  It gives the employees and employers the opportunity to do it one shot," said Sophia Piersma, marketing director for White Oaks Mall.

Thursday's hiring fair was a chance for stores inside White Oak's Mall to meet potential hires face to face, and for the mall, it was a chance to help its stores gear up for another busy shopping season.

"The type of people that would attract to the mall are the type of people we're looking for.  It's a great opportunity for everyone in the community to see what's out there for full-time and part-time employment for the holidays.  It reminds people to also shop locally.  White Oaks Mall has got a lot of awesome businesses and retailers right here," said Walker.

"We encourage everyone to come dressed to impress, bring a resume, and know this is a really tough market and everybody is out looking for positions right now, but there will be a few hundred positions that we'll be able to employ just from this one evening," added Piersma.

For those not able to make it to the hiring fair, Piersma said to call the mall office and see what stores still have openings, or to visit the stores you want to work for and ask to fill out an application directly.
