A Warm September With A Cool and Rainy End

Posted:

DECATUR--- September is in the books and will go down as a warm and wet month for some, while other areas will end with below normal precipitation.

Here at WAND we ended the month of September +3.8 degrees above normal. Overnight lows averaged +5.8 degrees above normal thanks to elevated moisture levels during the month. September averages about 3.3 days at or above 90, while this year we recorded 7 days with the warmest reading of 92 on September 6th. The coolest reading of 51 was recorded on the morning of September 26th.

Rains were scattered in nature during the month with a widespread rain event impacting the area on the 8th. Three straight days of rain fell from the 8th through the 10th, with the bulk of the monthly rains falling during that three day stretch. We measured 1.34" inches on the 8th marking that day as the highest total. Monthly rains totaled 2.80"inches, about -.34" inches below normal.
