SPRINGFIELD – Springfield Police say the PNC Bank on Chatham Road was robbed just after noon on Monday, October 3, and they believe the suspect previously robbed another bank.

The robbery happened at the PNC Bank, located at 3019 Chatham Road, at 12:35 PM on Monday.

Witnesses tell Springfield Police a white man in his forties to fifties came into the bank and gave the teller a note demanding they hand over money. The teller gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money, and the suspect then ran out the door.

Police have attached stills from surveillance footage of the man, who is said to stand at 6’0’’ and weigh around 170 pounds with salt and pepper, collar length hair. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a light purple or blue oxford button-up shirt.

WAND News reported last week that another bank on Chatham Road had been robbed. Authorities say they believe the suspect involved in this robbery is also involved in the robbery that took place at the Illinois National Bank last week.

Anyone with information concerning this crime, the previous robbery or the suspect should call the Springfield Police Department at 217-788-8311. Those wishing to remain anonymous can Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard Counties at 217-788-8427.
