Domestic violence events planned this month

Advocates plan to honor those affected by domestic violence and those working to stop it during a series of events this month.

Dove, Inc., a coalition that works to address unmet needs and social injustices, is holding a series of candlelight ceremonies around its service area as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The ceremonies are meant to “mourn victims, celebrate survivors and commend those who join us to take a stand against this crime.”

The planned events are being held, by county, at:

Shelby County: Thursday, October 6, 7 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 206 West Main, Shelbyville

DeWitt County: Monday, October 10, 7 p.m., Lane Christian Church, 4794 Lane Street, Lane

Macon County: Thursday, October 13, 7 p.m., St. James Church, 742 East Clay, Decatur

Moultrie County: Thursday, October 27, 7 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 216 W. Jefferson, Sullivan
