Firefighters respond to Decatur house fire Wednesday morning

DECATUR - The Decatur Fire Department is investigating a house fire that happened on the city's southeast side early Wednesday morning.

Fire officials say crews were dispatched to a home in the 800 block of South Illinois Street at about 12:14 a.m.  Upon arriving, firefighters began extinguishing flames found in a bedroom at the front of the home.  The fire was brought under control at about 12:40 a.m.

Officials add that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the bedroom where the fire originated was heavily damaged, with estimates reaching about $19,000 total.  The American Red Cross is assisting three adults and two children displaced by this fire.
