Gill Drops Congressional Bid


Decatur – Independent congressional candidate David Gill is throwing in the towel in his effort to unseat incumbent Republican Rodney Davis in Illinois’ 13th district.

Gill has been in federal court challenging state rules on the number of signatures required to appear on the ballot.  Two United States Supreme Court justices refused to hear Gill’s arguments and he has decided to end his campaign.

Congressman Rodney Davis told WAND News it’s up to the state to decide if election laws should be changed.

“That’s something that is under the control of the speaker of the house, the president of the senate and the governor,” Davis stated.  “I’ve had one (an opponent) every general election and competition is not bad.  Competition is good.”

Gill says he may run again in 2018.  He lost to Davis in 2012.  Democrat Mike Wickland of Decatur is still challenging Davis for his seat.
