One dead after crash between ATV and pickup


One man is dead after a crash between an ATV and a pickup truck in Decatur Thursday night.

Police report they were called to the scene of the crash around 10:41 p.m. According to their investigation, a 29-year-old man was driving an ATV south on 22nd Place approaching Hendrix Street. The ATV struck a Chevy Silverado in the intersection of Hendrix and 22nd Place, and the 29-year-old was thrown from the ATV on impact.

The ATV operator was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A 25-year-old man driving the pickup and a passenger were not hurt, police said.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the accident with the operator of the ATV, according to a press release.

The accident is being investigated by the Decatur Police Department’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team.
