"Don't Wait: Check the Date!" Fire Department Campaign

DECATUR -  Decatur Fire Department promotes Fire Prevention Week October 9th - 15th.  Fire Marshall Lyle Meador says, "We are making a concerted effort to educate Decatur residents about the overall importance of smoke alarms, and that they do have a life limit." The "Don't Wait: Check the Date" campaign reminds you smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years. The National Fire Protection Association says only a small percentage of people are aware their smoke detectors have a life limit. Simply look on the back of the unit for its manufacture date to learn its age. The Decatur Fire Department will host more than 1,000 students, teachers, and parents at Fire Station #1 over a two week period beginning Monday, October 10th in support of Fire Prevention Week. There will be puppet shows, magic shows, a tour of the station, and a fire safety house among other activities.
