Champaign-Urbana MTD adds 12 hybrid buses to fleet

Posted: Updated:

CHAMPAIGN - Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District officials say they are reducing the organization's impact on the environment by bringing 12 new hybrid buses into use.

Officials say the new, 40-foot buses will use a fully electric propulsion system, resulting in saving 15,600 gallons of gasoline and preventing 325 tons of carbon dioxide from entering the environment.  With the new additions, more than half of the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District's buses are hybrids.

The new buses also feature USB ports, a front bike rack, a low floor with easy ramp access, and more.
