SPRINGFIELD - Central Illinois residents who wish to volunteer with the American Red Cross will have the opportunity to attend a "Hot Shot" training session on October 18.

This new training opportunity is being offered in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.  The one-day program will feature training for setting up, maintaining, and closing a shelter during a disaster, as well as training on stress responses during disasters.

Participants will also complete two online courses covering disaster preparation and how to care for individuals affected by disasters.

Upon completion of this training program, participants will be eligible to deploy to help with the Hurricane Matthew response.

Registration is required for this event, and may be done via email at Pam.Tish@redcross.org or by calling (217) 428-7758, ext. 7478.  For more information about the Red Cross, click here.
