Springfield Police Investigating Break-in at Gun Store

Springfield - The Letz Hunt and Sport Store, located on the Springfield's north east side was the scene of a break-in Sunday night around 10:30.

Two suspects, who are in police custody, kicked in the door, and stole over 50 guns according to the police.

Springfield police lieutenant Chris Mueller said that the investigation is still ongoing, but the biggest concern investigators have right now is tracking down all the guns that were stolen before they get into the wrong hands.

"They're on the streets, or they're getting in the wrong hands somewhere.  We don't know if they're going to be in Springfield, or if they're going to be somewhere else.  We don't know what's going on with them.  The concerns for us are the number of guns that are illegally obtained out there on the streets.  We don't want any more violence, any gun violence, and 50 more guns saturating the streets if they're still in the Springfield area is concerning to us," said Mueller.

Mueller also said that while the suspects are in custody, people in the area should use this as a reminder of the importance of looking out for one another.

"It's good to keep an eye out on your neighbors, so be curious, be inquisitive.  You don't have to be challenging to the things you see.  If you see something out of the ordinary call us, we're the ones paid to be curious," he added.
