Unit 4 Schools to host FB live chat on School Facilities Referendum

Posted: Updated:

CHAMPAIGN – In preparation for the November 8 election, the Champaign Unit 4 School District plans to hold an hour-long broadcast on Facebook discussing the school facilities referendum.

The broadcast is being held to give community members the opportunity to gather information and ask questions about the referendum before they head to the polls. If approved, the referendum would allow the District to utilize $25 million in fund balance to make $208.4 million worth of repairs and improvements to Unit 4 schools.

Projects would range from renovating and repairing existing infrastructure in Central High School to improve facilities, including building-wide air conditioning, to adding more classrooms to International Prep Academy.

The referendum would impact all six of the District’s campuses in some way.

The live Facebook Q&A will take place Monday, October 17, beginning at 8:30 PM on the Unit 4 Facebook page.

Board of Education Vice President Amy Armstrong and Member Kathy Richards will host the chat and take questions from participants. Chambanamoms.com and the Champaign County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) will help facilitate the discussion.

Director of Unit 4 Communications, Stephanie Stuart says this interactive format will allow immediate access to what school board members have been working on.

“The EDC has been part of the intensive planning process that took place over the past year and this organization actively works to attract new business and jobs to our community. Chambanamoms.com represents the voice of parents in our community and is an invaluable resource to families. Our partnership for this chat is a natural one and we look forward to the discussion about this issue,” Stuart explains.

All community members are invited to tune into the broadcast and submit questions. Questions may also be submitted in advance on the Unit 4 Facebook page.

Chambanamoms.com and the Champaign County EDC will also be posting information on their Facebook pages leading up to the discussion.
