Local Students and Companies Celebrate IL Manufacturing Day

Decatur -

Local manufacturers and students are celebrating Illinois Manufacturing Day. The goal is to raise awareness about modern day technology that's being used in Central Illinois.

More than 80 students from Heartland Technical Academy got the chance to meet and network with 14 local manufacturing companies in order to find out about what the industry is like and what careers are available.

"It's especially important because manufacturing is in our roots. In the coming years, in less than 15 years, there's going to be about two million available jobs in manufacturing because of the skills gap. A lot of these folks are getting ready to retire. It's especially important to expose students to the opportunities here in Decatur in the short coming years," says Nicole Bateman, the Community Marketing Manager for the Economic Development Corporation of Decatur and Macon County.

Students also heard from a panel from ADM, Mason Manufacturing, and Akorn about how to land a job in the industry.
